Welcome to the Small Town with a Big Smile and Lots of Wind Power!
As you enter the small village of Elkton in Michigan’s Thumb Area, you’re greeted with a warm smile from the soaring water tower and the sights of a new type of crop – wind turbines.
This cozy community dates back to 1886 when a local blacksmith, W. J. McGillivray built the first house. He gave the village its name after having to destroy a large elk that had become entangled in his wife’s clothesline. Today, the village features many more homes and a pleasant mix of local businesses and industry. Plus, it is home to the first commercial wind farm in the state of Michigan. The Elkton Chamber of Commerce strives to support the betterment of the village and surrounding area through promotional and fundraising efforts. The Chamber works with volunteers and organizers to host various community events throughout the year, including:
- Vintage Snowmobile Races
- Wind Turbine Day
- Elkton AutumnFest
- Born To Be Wild
- Christmas in Elkton
- And many others!
After just one visit to Elkton, you’ll leave with a permanent smile and a new wind in your sail. Contact the Elkton Chamber today at 989-551-PARK (7275) or visit them online.
